Okay, I just finished reading this amazing book and testimony. First, I need to say thanks to Mike for sharing his story. He must hear that so often, but I really couldn't put this book down. It was an easy-read, yet SO thick and full of meaning. I've been researching and trying to understand poverty and homelessness and worked with our Hunger/Homeless ministry at my college. However, I've struggled with the comfort of not only my small Christian college and community, but my whole life and what God is calling me forth to do. I've been praying about doing mission year or something of the sort, but I am not sure what God really wants me to do. It becomes frustrating sometimes when you feel like nobody even cares to help those in need, like people forget that our brothers and sisters are out there waiting for someone to come along and share the love and peace of Christ. My perspective and love for those in need has changed just through conversation with the homeless at shelters and through research as well as conversation, prayer and raising awareness activities at my college. I couldn't imagine what actually living it would do. I've definitely realized that my small Christian college in the middle of nowhere needs, perhaps more than any other college-anywhere, to learn about those who are in need. Thanks to everyone also who reads this book and struggles with our self-centered society and generation consumed by materialism. My hope is that we can all become broken and love like Jesus loved. Mike and Sam, as well as all you other brothers and sisters in Christ, thank you for listening and obeying God. I have a lot of learning to do, and I'm praying that God will continue to open my eyes.
