I recently finished Under the Overpass, and I just wanted to thank you for writing such an inspiring and challenging book! I have been recommending it to basically everyone I know because it impacted me so much! I'm a social work major, about to start my junior year of college, and I recently returned home after a semester studying abroad in Latin America. I realize our experiences were very different, but I could relate to many of the feelings you described, especially the feelings of uncertainty upon returning home after such a life-changing experience, wondering where to go from here and how to relate to loved ones who hadn't been there. It was comforting to know that someone else has also struggled with material blessings and comfort in North American society, especially within the church. Thank you for challenging your readers to continually seek new ways to be Christ to a world in need of love. Throughout this past semester, I saw Jesus through the eyes of the poor and marginalized in society, as I know you did, too. I saw with a renewed heart just how radically Jesus loved…how much He valued them, how unconditionally He loved them, and how strongly He commands us as Christians to befriend them, serve them, and advocate for them…amazing to think what could happen if we all adopted a heart for people like Jesus did! Thanks for answering God's knocking on the door of your heart and for sharing your story with the world. May you continue to trust His lead and find ways to serve Him and those around you! ~Katie
