Mike(and whoever else may read this)

I cannot begin to describe how this book has made me want to change my way of thinking. I'm a 16 year old girl with a comfortable life and everything supposedly perfect. I work at a Christian bookstore and am the president of the Christian club at my school, I regularly attend church and love God with all of my heart. People all around me view me as "the good Christian girl who has everything" Little do they know that I would have nothing without God and what he has done in my life.
Last Christmas I went to Matamoros, Mexico on a mission trip with a group of 90 people who I had never met before. While in Mexico, I learned more about myself and God but mostly about people in general. I saw people at their worst, people who had nothing and yet were happy because nothing was all they have known. There, I realized that I was called to Mexico and wanted to change the lives of people there with all of my heart, and now 7 months later I still feel this calling but have no desire to fulfill it. I am normally content with my life and how things are going, after all I'm a pretty busy girl. And by now you may be thinking about what Under the Overpass has to do with any of this, but this book inspired me in ways that I can hardly describe. I look and I see how much faith you two men had and it makes me wish I had that too. When I returned from Mexico I told my parents and a few friends that I wanted to move to Mexico for a year(or more) and live exactly how they people there do and using all of my time/energy/money to helping them reach their needs. People told me that I was crazy and that I would never do such a thing, so I gave up on my "silly" idea and moved on with my life.
while reading your book however, I remembered the incredible desire that I had to help those people and become one of them and that how Mexico and the Mexican people are so much a part of me that I am home sick here with my life. With your book, you gave me the courage and knowledge that I could actually do my plan and have God bless others throgh me, because that is my true desire.
So, Mike, I just want to say thank you for writing this book. You are an amazing person who has had such an impact on my life and my plans that I have. Thank you and may God continue to bless you in all you do.
Ashley
