I've just finished reading Under the Overpass and couldn't help but feel incredibly moved and connected with both Mike and Sam's journey as well as they're desire to strengthen relationships and be a better disciple of God. I've just moved from Phoenix, one of the cities the two of them traveled to, to northern Arizona for my first year of college. Although this is an extremely unnerving time, (I start school tomorrow!) I am so excited to explore my faith deeper and continue to grow more connected with those marginalized in my own community. I found this memoir extremely empowering and am infinitely joyful that it has solidified my passion for social justice. This summer, I've discovered this passion through my volunteer work at the Lodestar Day Resource Center downtown Phoenix, working alongside and helping to provide services to the homeless of my community. It gives me chills to think that I might have come across some people who connected with Mike and Sam during their month in Phoenix. This book has given me a new surge of courage to continue to strengthen my faith in God and be the best Christian that I can be, living in solidarity with those who struggle living in poverty, and be an advocate for Jesus, my faith, and the importance of loving all of our neighbors. Thank you so much for this, Mike.
