I have been staying at the City Rescue Mission in Oklahoma City since 22 September, 2005.
My favorite cop loaned me Under The Overpass. He had to read it because the new CEO of CRM made it mandatory for all staff to read. (Gary works security there in the evenings).

God works in wonderful and mysterious ways.

I have a swiss army knife that my parents gave to me for my 16th birthday (I am 30 now). Normally, I keep it in a 18 gallon tote provided for my clothing because weapons are not allowed at the Mission. Three weeks ago, I went to jail because I was caught driving without a license. Not a problem, although the lack of a car really hurts me now. I am in the process of saving up to get my drivers license back. Anyway, I happened to have my knife on me that day. Jailers here in OKC put paper tape on any knives to keep them from opening.

My knife went back into my tote until Monday. I took it out to take the paper tape off and clean it. Tuesday, I still had it in my pocket.

I really needed it on Tuesday. Someone attempted to rape me. Normally, my knife is in my tote, un needed, un thought of. I've been at the Mission for almost two years and this was the first time ... ANYTHING...like that had happened. I've been raped twice before, but that was before I became homeless.

(I DO shower, and I have a job. I'm leaving the Mission May 01.)
