I head up the homeless ministry at my college right here outside of Boston. We bring in soup, bagels, coffee, hot chocolate, and clothes every Saturday morning. After reading Under the Overpass this weekend, I feel like we could be doing so much more. There is a small group of us that is really committed to working with the homeless...any ideas as to what we could do in the Boston area? Anyone have experience with any of the Rescue Missions there?

I don't know the Boston area but I do have many homeless friends. We often talk about what is given that helps them the most. Here in Houston during the hot weather, water is the most prized gift. Most would trade the water, tho, for a relationship with someone who makes them feel that they matter to our world. I have little extra financially, so I give of myself, my time. I listen to their stories (which bless me beyond words), I read scripture with them, accompany them to the county hospital when they are severely ill, loan them my cell phone so that they can call family.....in short, I try to be a good friend, from which I reap more blessings than they. Good luck, and God bless you and your friends.
