Hi, I've been putting homeless packets together for a couple of years. I keep a sack of things in my car for when I meet someone who is homeless on the street or in my car. I love doing this and get to start conversations and build relationships with those I see often on my daily routines. However, I am sometimes uncertain what is helpful for putting inside the packet. Currently I put fruit, a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and other toiletries. In summer I put a poncho for the rain. Any advice about about what else would be good to put inside. I wouldn't want to fill it with things that are burdensome to carry or things easily accessible. I also put a list of rescue mission phone numbers and toll-free help numbers such as 211, the United Way along with a letter with verses of encouragement from the Lord and a personal message. Any advice on how to make these packets better? Perhaps adding a list of addresses alongside a schedule of when there are meals available at the missions and churches nearby. Thanks so much! Think about homeless women. They need feminine hygiene as well as brushes and combs. Their hair might be messy for lack of a good brush.
